Designer Profile

Through my company, Marlene Oliphant Designs, it has been my privilege to redesign and remodel homes throughout the Los Angeles area as well as in Florida and the Midwest. As a Certified Interior Designer since 2002, I have become an expert at helping Clients maximize the beauty and potential of their homes.

By far the most exciting part for us is providing the final Big Reveal, when everything comes together on delivery day and my Clients experience the thrill of seeing their beautiful new space for the first time! There is just nothing like it and it is why we love helping our clients fall in love with their homes.

My Clients tend to be on-the-go professionals who desire not only creativity but great service, convenience and peace of mind. We strive for a happy collaboration because we care very much about how our Clients will feel in their new spaces. We also offer cutting-edge technology to every Client, from detailed design drawings for floor plans to full-on remodels, to full color renderings. This allows Clients like you to view our proposed designs with all of your selected furnishings and finish materials, so you will know exactly how your new spaces will look before you commit to the design.

I am the only award-winning designer who has over 15 years of set design experience, a former editor of Better Homes & Gardens Magazine, a published author of over 30 cookbooks (a.k.a.Marlene Brown), educated in Interior Design and a Certified Interior Designer. As you can tell, kitchens are one of my specialties, but my design expertise goes much further. I have designed everything from a single room redesign, to whole-house remodels for estates and second homes. I also provide design services for small offices for greater efficiency and practical working solutions.

There are many details to consider on even the simplest project, and we are masters at managing the details. If you are interested in working with a highly experienced designer who places your wishes at the forefront of your project, we would be happy to discuss the possibilities with you. Call for a no-obligation, introductory consultation. For more information and a detailed outline of how we work, please visit our website listed above.

This master bath was bathed in serene tones of pale cream marble and gold onyx tiles. Heated floor, double sinks, a whirlpool tub and crystal accents add luxury to this master bath.
This Living Room in a California Ranch-style home got an uplift with soft colors, a comfy white sectional (stain-treated) and a Moroccan-patterned area rug. The custom entertainment unit holds a large flat-screen tv with space for all the accoutrements.
This entry offers smart transitional style, with an updated damask pattern on the stair carpet, combined with a custom mirrored console and capiz shell mirror above. The feature wall was painted a deep teal for interest. Floor is a custom marble design.
This luxury condo was also featured on the Pasadena Home Tour. The living/dining space is bathed in a serene palate of gold, cream, chocolate and touches of green. Remodeled fireplace features travertine and marble mosaic tile.
This galley kitchen with a striking tile floor design could just as easily have creamy white cabinetry; it's that versatile. Over the cooktop we opened up the wall and added a counter so that guests can watch the cook without being underfoot. All-Viking appliances and lots of spacious cabinetry makes this an a great working kitchen for two cooks.
This glamorous galley kitchen was completely remodeled from its' 1950 beginnings. White cabinetry, a travertine and glass backsplash, stainless steel appliances, light granite and an expansive new peninsula paved the way for great family interaction.
This 40-year-old kitchen got a complete overhaul with new windows, a gorgeous island, two-tone cabinetry and shelving for the owners' cookbook collection.
A romantic claw-foot tub turns this master bath into a spa. Heated flooring, an expansive shower and double sinks offer plenty of flexibility for two.
The double vanity in this bath is accented with pale green granite and a glass mosaic backsplash. The recessed medicine cabinets have interior LED lights for night lights, and electrical outlets for shaving and curling irons. An open storage cabinet at the end of the vanity was finished with a mirrored cabinet door to match the vanity doors.
This Spanish bungalow kitchen was featured on the Pasadena Home Tour. Colorful hand-painted tiles, a custom hood and backsplash design, oak cabinetry with a custom teal wash for interest on some pieces, along with an eye-catching Viking range and a collection of well-hidden appliances, make this kitchen work like a charm. Sink and fittings are copper. The custom island is on wheels for easy movement.
I designed this Dining Room addition to accommodate large family gatherings. Custom cabinetry, dining table and area rug, along with window treatments and walls designed for the clients' art collection were some of the special touches incorporated into this design.
This family kitchen in a Lake Arrowhead home has room for both family and guests to congregate. Amber glass tile and copper accents on the pantry doors, the vent hood and in the copper mesh pendants adds a rustic feel to this inviting space.
This dining area was outfitted with cabinetry to match the kitchen. A tall wine cabinet allows for the clients' wine storage. A mirrored backsplash reflects the serene scene outside. An antique table and chairs, and a vintage lighting fixture complete the scene in this inviting dining space.
This country-French kitchen was outfitted with Wolf-Subzero and Fisher and Paykel appliances. The large island holds great storage for large serving bowls and platters. This kitchen was designed for large family and friendly gatherings that take place weekly in this household. A separate walk-in pantry and a separate freezer are stationed in the hallway.
This country French kitchen is decidedly traditional, practical and luxurious at the same time. The copper hood and tile backsplash were custom designs. Cabinetry by Woodmode. White rose granite countertops, and a bleached French oak plank floor carry out the theme.
The existing furnishings were used, along with new upholstery on the chairs, new window treatments and accessories. The final effect is a comfortable design that honors this wonderful 1924 Spanish home.
The low ceiling in this room was vaulted to match the great room ceiling downstairs. A comfy padded headboard is comfortable for reading in bed. The custom bedding was an unfussy combination of comforter, pillow shams and a classy bolster pillow that go together in 60 seconds.
This Hancock Park combination Family Room and Home Theatre focuses on the beautiful fireplace and arched windows. The leather sectional stands up to kids and pets. It is an easy living space, but elegant and stylish at the same time.
This Family-Room/Home Theatre features a TV hidden in a decorative wall-hung box. The console table below houses equipment. Tub chairs swivel for TV viewing. The coffee table is custom, along with the paint treatment on walls, fireplace and ceiling. Window treatments are also custom.
This Encino Family Room was completely redesigned and refurnished, including a two-tone wood flooring. The sectional works as well for the adults as it does for the grandkids. The owners' art collection is featured on generous wall space. The fireplace was remodeled with new tile, a TV mounted over top, and glass stones surround the gas line. It's an elegant way to warm up a family room.
This hallway is quite long and needed some pizzazz, so along with a two-tone flooring, we painted the ceiling blue and added star light fixtures. At the end of the hall is this lovely silver-painted demilune cabinet with a silver-framed mirror. Walls feature the owners' art collection.
This elegant Living Room features custom furnishings and a custom area rug in pale tones of lavender, grey and dusty turquoise. The oval coffee table is painted in silver leaf. Fireplace is clad in marble, with a custom glass fire screen.
This powder room was done with Asian flair. We repurposed a turquoise chest for the plumbing, did a floor pattern with bamboo-patterned and pebble tiles, utilized both grasscloth wallpaper and glass and ceramic tile for a simple, appealing design. The light fixture is silk fabric.
Here is a close-up of the Asian powder bath. The vessel sink has a snake pattern, and the bamboo faucet was custom. The chest top received a waterproof finish. Drawers are configured for plumbing and are lined with wallpaper. Mirror is capiz shell.
This condo loft became a family room-home theater. A red leather sectional opens into a bed for guests, and the ottoman opens up for storage. An L-shaped entertainment unit holds components for the TV.
This Florida gulf home was done in watercolors, and the dining room is no exception. Chairs are covered in stain-proof Sunbrella fabric. Table top is glass on a metal base. The wall mirrors were stacked to emphasize the high ceiling in the space.
The living room in this Florida gulf home had a curved wall, so we used a curved sectional, accented with colorful pillows. Two bergere chairs were covered in different fabrics. Walls display the owners' art collection.
This Family Room, just off the lanai in a Florida gulf home, was furnished in a teal leather sectional that reflects the pool and canal just outside. The TV is housed in a contemporary wall unit that houses the components. Area rug is custom.
